How does the cooling work?

The GentleMax Pro Plus cools using Candela's proprietary DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device). Just before each laser pulse, it briefly sprays cryogen onto the skin to cool the surface and protect the epidermis. This is different from air-cooling systems that blow cool air onto the skin.

Is treatment possible on darker or tanned skin?

The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength has relatively low epidermal melanin absorption, so it can be applied to darker or tanned skin. However, whether treatment is possible and at what intensity can vary with the degree of tanning and skin condition, so a consultation beforehand is needed.

How many sessions are needed?

Because hair goes through growth, regression, and resting phases, it is difficult to remove all hair at once. Repeating every 6-8 weeks over several sessions is common, and the number of sessions needed may vary by individual depending on hair thickness and density.

Is the treatment very painful?

You may feel a sensation like a rubber band snapping when the laser fires, but DCD cryogen-spray cooling eases the heat and irritation during treatment. A topical anesthetic can be added for those sensitive to pain, and the degree of pain may vary by individual.

Are there any precautions after treatment?

How It Works

Laser hair removal is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The Alexandrite wavelength is used on areas with coarse, dense hair such as the thighs and calves, while the Nd:YAG wavelength is used on thinner or darker-toned areas, and the fluence is adjusted while observing each individual's skin response. DCD cryogen-spray cooling is used throughout to protect the epidermis, and care is provided with a protocol tailored to the characteristics of male lower-body hair.

After the treatment, stinging, redness, burns, a hot sensation, blisters, itching, hives, oozing, inflammation, infection, acne, bleeding, pigmentation, and allergies due to individual constitution may occur.
