What is Laetigen?
Laetigen is an implantable collagen tissue filler launched by the Korean company Dimed, and it holds approval from Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as an implantable medical device. Contrary to what some advertisements claim, it is not a US FDA-approved product; its use is based on Korean MFDS approval. Its main ingredient is 99.9% high-purity Type 1 collagen, specifically porcine (pig)-derived atelocollagen. Atelocollagen is purified by using proteolytic enzymes to remove the telopeptide portions that can trigger allergic reactions. It is important to understand that this is an animal (porcine)-derived ingredient, not human-derived or recombinant collagen, before deciding on treatment.
How it works
While typical collagen-stimulating treatments work by stimulating the dermis to induce collagen 'production,' Laetigen directly fills the dermal layer with purified collagen itself. The product is formulated at a collagen concentration of 30 mg/ml in a 2 ml volume, with a near-neutral pH (about 7.2) and a cross-linked triple-helix structure, so it causes relatively little irritation on injection and is designed to settle stably within the skin. The injected collagen replenishes depleted dermal collagen and helps fill the skin's supportive structure.
